Ft. Tyler Blanton (vibraphone), Adam Birnbaum (piano), Vicente Archer (bass), Johnathan Blake (drums)

Brooklyn based vibraphonist Tyler Blanton is becoming known as a new and identifiable voice on the instrument. With his distinctly lyrical and nuanced 4 mallet approach to the vibraphone, he has been praised as “an heir to the swinging and melodically charged throne of post-bop masters such as Gary Burton and Bobby Hutcherson.” A prolific composer, Blanton’s musical endeavors consistently involve top musicians in the New York music scene such as Donny McCaslin, Nate Wood, Ari Hoenig, Drew Gress, and Johnathan Blake, among others.  His compositions range from modern and eclectic to soulful and rooted, all the while painting a unified musical identity.

Tyler Blanton:

As a leader, Blanton has toured the US, Europe, and Asia and received press from many major publications such as the New York Times, Village Voice, Time Out New York, and Downbeat magazine. Blanton’s third album will be released in April for Destiny records. It finds him in the company of bassist Drew Gress, drummer Johnathan Blake, and pianist Jon Cowherd for a program of original tunes and standards which are treated with a sense of adventure,  virtuosity, and sincerity.

Adam Birnbaum:

Adam Birnbaum is emerging as one of the top young voices in jazz piano. Since receiving a graduate Artist’s Diploma in jazz studies from The Julliard School in 2003, he has become a presence on the New York City scene as a leader and sideman, performing in such venues as the Village Vanguard, the Blue Note, Birdland, the Jazz Standard and Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola. He has also performed on many national and world stages, including the Gilmore International Keyboard Festival, the Kennedy Center, the Montreal Jazz Festival, The Spoleto Festival, The Red Sea Jazz Festival, The Rockport Chamber Festival, NPR Jazz Christmas, and the Capetown Jazz Festival.

Vicente Archer:

Vicente was born in Woodstock, NY, and here he embraced the rich cultural arts of this historical town by listening to local great jazz artists Dave Holland, Jimmy Cobb, Jack DeJohnette, among many others. He began his musical career on guitar at age sixteen primarily self-taught, learning from his parents Wes Montgomery and George Benson records. During those years he began making a name for himself playing in the Hudson Valley region with variety of ensembles from Albany to New York City. Upon graduation from high school, Vicente was accepted to The New England Conservatory (NEC) in Boston, MA, where he majored in Jazz Studies. Some of his instructors included guitarist Gene Bertoncini, saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi, and Latin/Jazz marvel pianist Danilo Perez. After his first year at NEC, Vicente transferred to Boston's Northeastern University where he switched from guitar to acoustic bass. Within one year of switching to the bass, the powerful alto saxophonist Donald Harrison, a long-time champion and discoverer of young talent, asked Vicente to join his group. Donald thought so highly of Vicente skills that he used him on his Impulse! release, Free to Be. While still in college, Vicente also began performing in the Eric Reed Trio. After earning a business degree in Management Information Systems and Business Management in June 2000, Vicente moved to New York City where he soon began performing and touring with the likes of Kenny Garrett, Terence Blanchard, Tom Harrell, Freddie Hubbard, Mark Whitfield, Roy Haynes, Geri Allen, Wycliffe Gordon, Craig Handy, Janis Siegel, Lewis Nash, Carl Allen, and The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra w/ Wynton Marsalis, among many others.

Johnathan Blake:

Johnathan Blake, one of the most  accomplished drummers of his generation, has also proven himself a  complete and endlessly versatile musician. Blake’s gift for composition  and band leading reflects years of live and studio experience across the  aesthetic spectrum. Heralded by NPR Music as “the ultimate modernist,”  he has collaborated with Pharoah Sanders, Ravi Coltrane, Tom Harrell,  Hans Glawischnig, Avishai Cohen, Donny McCaslin, Linda May Han Oh,  Jaleel Shaw, Chris Potter, Maria Schneider, Alex Sipiagin, Kris Davis  and countless other distinctive voices. DownBeat once wrote, “It’s a  testament to Blake’s abilities that he makes his presence felt in any  context.” A frequent presence on Blue Note records over the past several  years, Blake has contributed his strong, limber pulse and airy  precision to multiple leader releases from Blue Note artists including  Dr. Lonnie Smith’s Breathe (2021), All in My Mind (2018) and Evolution  (2016) and Kenny Barron’s Concentric Circles (2018), the latter whose  trio Blake has been a vital member for nearly 15 years.
