This musical band began in 2018 when Spanish Teacher, Mr. Murphy sent this email to some of us:

“Good morning, all. There was some chatter at yesterday's faculty meeting about Student Appreciation Day on Nov. 2 and--though it was maybe a joke--how it could be fun to have a faculty band. I'd be willing to play guitar or bass and work on a couple of songs the kids might enjoy. You? I think it'd be fun to actually make it happen. Less talk, more action, eh? Also, there are probably more out there who play/sing, but they've kept their secrets closely guarded.
Let me know what you think.

Cheers!”

I don’t think any of us on the email had any idea what was going to come from this idea. It started as a small group project with Ms. Fu, Mr. Murphy, Mr. Tarchine, Mrs. Hudak, Mrs. E-R, and myself. We prepared Don’t Stop Believing and We are the Champions and in November 2018 we surprised ALL of MMS with our first big breakout performance. No one outside of the group knew our plans…even Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Stanmyer only knew that we were doing a special musical surprise. During that school-wide assembly/performance, we had teachers rocking out on stage with us and the kids in the audience were singing along. It was so fun to see the reaction from our colleagues and students.

A year later, a fun musical undertaking grew into a larger endeavor. The music department wanted to take a field trip to Six Flags but the cost for busing made the trip over $100/student. So my incredible colleagues came together again -- to do what we loved and make music together for a cause this time. The first concert was held in the high school auditorium in 2019 and we even had our retired band teacher, Mr. Gallagher as a special guest. This concert included solo performances on our classical instruments in addition to cover songs. Our second annual Paper Jam concert in February of 2020, right before Covid. That was a full concert with pieces by the Jackson 5 and more modern hits like Sucker by the Jonas Brothers. Last year, we were able to put on a smaller coffee house concert in the new musical addition at the middle school. This February, we once again held our 3rd annual Paper Jam concert. The band includes seven faculty members from the Marlboro Middle School: our ELA teacher, Ms. Hudak, math teachers Ms. Santilli and Mr. Nicosia, Spanish teacher, Mr. Tarchine, science teacher, Ms. Edwards-Ransom, music teacher, Dr. Hu-Corbett, and band teacher, Mr. Mayce.

We love making music teacher and performing for the school and community. We are grateful for the opportunity to perform at the Falcon this spring and continue to raise money to provide unique musical opportunities for our students who are involved in the music program. We thank you all for your support and appreciate you coming out to hear us tonight.
