Jason Marshall

Jason Marshall is a premiere voice on the baritone saxophone, rooted in the bebop tradition yet deeply expansive in his musical curiosity. Based in New York City since 2003, he has built a wide-reaching career as a performer, composer, arranger, educator, and cultural voice. His work honors the joy, complexity, and legacy of Black American music, spanning styles and generations with integrity and soul.

Jason holds a Master of Music in Jazz Performance from Queens College's Aaron Copland School of Music and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Saxophone from The New School’s School of Jazz and Contemporary Music. Over the past two decades, he has brought his artistry to stages around the world, performing and recording with his own ensemble as well as with artists including Roy Hargrove, Aretha Franklin, Deedee Bridgewater, Chaka Khan, Abdullah Ibrahim, Hermeto Pascoal, Kurt Elling, The Roots, The Temptations, Mingus Big Band, Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, Birdland Big Band, and New Orleans Jazz Orchestra. His discography as a leader includes Overt Negritude (2006), Sign the Book (2010), Joy Unspeakable (2020), and New Beginnings (2022, Cellar Live). As a sideman, he has contributed to acclaimed projects including Emergence (Roy Hargrove Big Band), Timeless (Kenny Lattimore), Echoes of Ethnicity (Derrick Gardner), Such Sweet Thunder (Delfeayo Marsalis), Centennial Sessions (Mingus Big Band), Storybook (Birdland Big Band), and Soto Blue (Abdullah Ibrahim).

Beyond the bandstand, Jason is a devoted educator. He currently teaches at Montclair State University and The New School, and leads ensembles and instrumental instruction with Jazz House Kids (Montclair and Trinity programs). His private studio has nurtured young musicians for over a decade, while his work with Carnegie Hall’s Musical Connections & Social Impact Program brings music education to system-involved and incarcerated individuals across the country. At Columbia University Business School, he gives lectures on how jazz and African American culture can positively influence corporate cultures around the world.

Jason’s writing extends his role as a cultural historian and thinker. His published essays—on John Coltrane, Hampton Hawes, Lee Morgan, and Stanley Turrentine—honor Black music luminaries and their continued resonance. These reflections are housed at Ivy Style, where his contributions form a bridge between music, culture, and identity.

Pat Bianchi

Organist Pat Bianchi has established himself as one of the premier organists on the international scene today. Bianchi is the winner of Downbeat Magazine’s 2016 rising star poll, Hot House 2019 poll and nominee of the 2024 Jazz Journalists Association as Keyboardist of the year. Known for fearlessly taking the jazz organ into new and exciting directions, Pat’s playing blends tradition with forward-thinking creativity, drawing inspiration from mentors Dr. Lonnie Smith and Joey DeFrancesco.

With a career that includes touring with Steely Dan, performing alongside jazz icons Pat Martino and Lou Donaldson, and leading his own acclaimed trio, Pat’s artistry is unmatched! His command of the instrument, harmonic prowess, rhythmic intensity and versatility are rivaled by few. Bianchi’s nine albums as bandleader, together with over 35 credits as a featured sideman and his Grammy Nomination have solidified his place at the forefront of today’s Jazz Organists.

In addition to leading his own groups, Pat has performed along side a wide array of musicians including Chuck Loeb, Ralph Peterson Jr., Tim Warfield, George Coleman, Terrace Martin, Joe Locke, Red Holloway, Dakota Staton, Mark Whitfield, Terell Stafford, Eric Marienthal among many others.

Born in Rochester New York, Bianchi comes from a musically prolific family. He began playing organ at the age of 7 and was playing his first professional gigs by the age of 11. While in grade school, he enrolled in The Eastman School of Music’s preparatory program for piano and music theory while at the same time being mentored by numerous musicians in the Rochester music scene. Bianchi continued his studies at Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA) and went on to spend about 8 years in Denver continuing to refine his skills before relocating to New York City in 2008.

While maintaining an active performance schedule, Bianchi is also the host of the weekly Sirius XM Radio show “Organized” and is currently on faculty at Berklee College of Music serving as an Associate Professor of Jazz Organ.
