Perhaps the most recorded bassist of his generation, Peter Washington has been an integral part of two of the most highly praised jazz trios of the past 20 years, including the Tommy Flanagan Trio and the Bill Charlap Trio. A first-call bassist for decades, he has appeared on more than 350 recordings and performed with a “who’s who” of jazz, including Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Golson, Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, Clark Terry, Lionel Hampton, and Jackie McLean, among many others.

His extensive collaborations span generations, from artists like Barry Harris and Lou Donaldson to Tom Harrell, Renee Rosnes, and Regina Carter, as well as vocalists including Karrin Allyson and Marlena Shaw. Known for his adaptability, strong time feel, and inventive, supportive playing, Washington is often compared to George Duvivier, Milt Hinton, and Ron Carter.
