"Formidable jazz incubator" Catskill Jazz Factory presents a night of burning, straight-ahead jazz, led by woodwind artist Aaron Johnson. In addition to leading his own group in nearly every New York jazz establishment, from Smalls to Jazz at Lincoln Center, Johnson has worked with notable jazz musicians, Jon Batiste, Dick Hyman, Chuck Israels, Ken Peplowski, Connie Crothers, Slide Hampton, John Colianni, Ed Palermo, Pete Barbutti, Joey "G Clef" Cavaseno, Jon Erik Kellso, Dwayne Clemons, and Sacha Perry, among others.
Johnson is currently an artist in residence with the famed Catskill Jazz Factory and 23arts. Through these organizations, he has premiered four commissioned projects since 2017.
Aaron is preparing two albums - a quartet album produced by Ken Peplowski; and a live concert recorded at the Oregon Coast Music Festival, featuring jazz great Chuck Israels on bass as well as frequent collaborator, Jordan Piper.
Opener: Chris Brokaw of The Lemonheads
Chris began playing solo in late 1999, his shows featuring solo electric, and acoustic guitars. Brokaw's album The End of the Night (2019) was conceived around a simple concept - to make a record for the end of a night. Brokaw is a brilliantly narrative guitarist, known for taking collaborative projects he’s to new heights. The result is a multi-hued, jazz-tinged instrumental record with a melancholy resolve and a deep blue/purple filter.
Since 2005, he has performed occasionally with the CHRIS BROKAW ROCK BAND, first with Jeff Goddard (ex-Karate) on bass and Kevin Coultas (ex-Rodan) on drums, and later with a variety of musicians including Elisha Wiesner (Kahoots) on bass and Sal Esposito (Kahoots) on drums.
