Our hands imbibe like roots,
so I place them on what is beautiful in this world.
And I fold them in prayer, and they
draw from the heavens LIGHT! - St. Francis of Assisi (1182-1226)
My artwork deals with divine transformation. It is the result of a search for spirituality and self-introspection. Peace, tranquility, and hope permeate my paint. Landscapes became a natural outlet for my soul, seeking solitude. Nature is my higher power. Telephone poles become crosses, clouds become cathedrals, and roads and highways are my spiritual path. I worship outdoors. These paintings are not reality, rather my interpretation of what I wish were true. My paintings are my meditation, my medication, a remedy. Buddhists use the image of the sun behind the clouds to describe inner perfection, I use this image to describe Heaven on Earth.
I am a self-taught painter. My teachers have been the great masters that came before me. I wear my influences on my sleeve. I call my paintings Sacred Landscapes, for they are Sacred. Words cannot describe my deep connection with the earth and God; so I paint.
I consider myself a modern traditionalist. I borrow from the past, yet tread new ground. My hope is to capture the ordinary and reveal its beauty...to flush God out into the open, the visible. Life and art are a continuous process, each new day brings clarity, acceptance and the possibility of serenity. Pain and suffering have been transformed into the divine. My paintings have been and will always be an extension of myself. They do not define who I am as a person, rather they become one more piece of the intricate puzzle that is me. "Who am I?" The search continues, the dig carries on.
