Guitarist Sheryl Bailey is an in-demand leader, side-person, and educator. She currently has six releases as a leader, including a recent DVD/CD from Mel Bay Records: “The Sheryl Bailey 3: Live in NYC.” All of her releases feature her work not only as a guitarist, but also as composer. She also leads Jazz Guitars Meet Hendrix, with jazz guitar virtuoso Vic Juris, which explores the music of Jimi Hendrix from a jazz guitar perspective. She has published educational books for Mel Bay: “Moveable Shapes: Concepts for Re-Harmonizing II-V-I’s” and her solo from her composition “Old and Young Blues” is included in the compilation “Jazz Masters Anthology Vol. VI.” She also has been a regular columnist for their “NY Scene” column for the Mel Bay website. She is currently an Associate Professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and is on the faculty of The Collective in New York City. In addition to her solo outings, Sheryl has toured and recorded with David Krakauer’s Klezmer Madness, Richard Bona, Shingo Okudaira, George Garzone, Jack Wilkins, Howard Alden and pop diva Irene Cara.

His guitar playing first began to attract attention in the early and mid-70s thanks to appearances and recordings with Phil Woods, Dizzy Gillespie, and Miroslav Vitous. Subsequently, he became part of the jazz fusion movement by joining keyboardist Barry Miles' group and also performing in duets with guitarist Larry Coryell. Vics ability to play in acoustic and electric jazz formats without loss of integrity ensured popular acceptance. Juris has also recorded and performed with: David Liebman, Freddie Hubbard, Gary Peacock, John Abercrombie, Bireli Lagrene and Lee Konitz to name a few.

Vic plays with fluent lyricism, choosing to seduce his listeners with subtle phrasing and engaging harmonies. Not surprisingly, therefore, his playing of ballads is particularly attractive, allowing the romantic element to blossom. In addition to his inventive playing, Juris has also composed many songs.
