The Folkadelics' music is an inimitable amalgamation of a little bit of reggae, funky three-part harmony vocals, with a touch of hip hop. Sam Miller (guitar/vocals/beat boxer/harmonica) and Gavin Cummings (wah-wah mandolin/vocals/guitar) formed THE FOLKADELICS, formally SAMPSON AND THE FOLKADELICS, in 2007. The band composed their own material, inspired by late night acoustic jam sessions and some rowdy nights. In May of 2007, amidst the chaos of finals week, Sam and Gavin cut a self titled acoustic EP at the Ithaca College Music School. In the fall of 2007, THE FOLKADELICS relocated to New York City and quickly expanded, adding bass player Jon Sandners and drummer Ian Cummings to the recipe. Together, the newly added rhythm section added the funky backbone the band had been craving. The most recent addition to THE FOLKADELICS, is the captivating female vocalist Danny Farone, who completes the three-part harmony blend. In May 2010, THE FOLKADELICS completed and released a 5 track EP with producer Steve Wall, who worked with Matisyahu on the live Louisville Light Sessions album. THE FOLKADELICS are now working on completing their full length album, featuring anticipated new material, as well as songs the band has performing live for years. Truly entertainers, THE FOLKADELICS’ unique sound and on stage chemistry, bring life, energy and dancing into venues throughout the northeast. At the National Underground’s 2010 G.I. Battle of the Bands, THE FOLKADELICS were dubbed winners by a celebrity judge panel that included Q104.3’s Out of the Box host, Jonathan Clark and musician Gavin DeGraw. In addition to the National Underground, THE FOLKADELICS have performed at several New York City venues including; The City Winery, Bitter End, Kenny’s Cast Away, The Red Lion and South Paw. In addition, THE FOLKADELICS have also established a monthly residency at the Putnam Den (Saratoga, NY). THE FOLKADELICS have been selected to perform at several music festivals this summer including Ithaca Fest (Ithaca, NY), Falcon Ridge Folk Festival (Hillsdale, NY) and Live Free Music and Art Festival (Lorraine, NY).
